Get Yer Somethin’-Somethin’ Down

You know how when you know something, you’ve heard something, you’ve sort- of subscribed to this something but you don’t really embrace the something until you hear it from someone else?

Or you didn’t hear it the right way…in the right words, the words that made you go: “whoa.”

And then one day you do! You hear it like it’s never been said before. The heavens open up and “laaaaaaaa!”, you suddenly get it.

I got it when I heard the ever brilliant, very young but wise voice of Derek Halpern say it in an online class that I’m taking of his called “Blog That Converts”. Amongst other toney nuggets of shmartie stuff, Derek, in one of his early modules talks about not having 10 or 11 comma’s to describe what you do, but rather having your 1 Superpower Solution. That’s it. That’s the light bulb. [Read more...]

The Anti Social Online Marketer

"The Anti social online marketer"There’s no more denying it. As much as I’ve attempted to live the Social Media Dream for the last few years I’m hangin’ up the hat. Throwin’ in the towel. Wavin’ the white flag. I surrender, ok? I. Just. Can’t. Anymore.
At the risk of sounding like a grouchy old hag I need to come clean. I don’t care that you just arrived at Applebee’s. Nor do I care that you’re feeling peaceful. Not that I don’t like you; please don’t misunderstand. And I do enjoy photos of your kids. I post photos of mine from time to time too, so I won’t be hypocritical here. But let me vent for just a few. It’s nothing personal and I admire those out there who have developed a great Twitter following and who have even become close friends with your Tweet Sisters. A colleague told me a few months ago that she’d developed such a close relationship with one of her Twitter followers that they ended up going on a vacation to the Bahamas’ together last fall. I am in awe of that. But it will never be me. No judgements, it will just never be me! And that’s ok. [Read more...]

Little Pink Spoons; Offer a Sample

This is a true story:little pink spoons
This past Sunday, I was at an undisclosed large book store in Fairfield County, which happened to house a well known coffee shop, minding my own business, nursing a latte and happily immersed in a fascinating book on effectively parenting your teenager without running off to Fiji, when a funny thing happened.
In walked a guy lugging two tiny baby carriers, in which were housed two tiny infants, each about the size of a large roast chicken. This pleasant looking man sat down at the table next to me, placed the infants in their carriers on the floor by his table and proceeded to pull a bottle to feed the awake little roast chicken out of his mammoth designer diaper bag. As he was feeding the well behaved little thing I couldn’t help but ask if her was alone — he was…. and how well he seemed to manage the two of them, who, as he revealed, were a mere six weeks old. Online Marketer: Market Thyself !

A member of my BNI group gave me an idea I’ve been ranting about to others for quite some time but obviously not heeding. (Marketer: market thyself), and that is the really important element of listening to what people want, instead of just ‘what you would like to shove down their throats because you think it’s a really good idea.’ A high end painter, Alberto was ready for the big plunge, wanting to re-vamp his website and his online marketing campaign. Having had an existing website that just sort of sat there not doing much of anything for him, Alberto was excited about the idea of creating an optimized website that was built not only to showcase his beautiful work, but to rise to the top of Google and the other search engine ranks, and act as a lead generator for his business as well. We’d met, discussed his vision and his options and all the bells and whistles we could implement to attain his goals, the costs involved, the ROI (return on investment) and I left him to mull it over.
