Technophobe-Schmeknophobe

Week 2 of our Mom to Mompreneur Now! tele-summit ended with a big whahoo! And as Jennifer and I sat

through both Jane Pollak’s interview on Tuesday and Kathy McShane’s interview on Thursday clasping hands and praying to our respective Gods that no technical snafoo’s would occur, I can happily report that we made it through both events with no lost connections, no hang ups, and plenty of interaction. We built it, we spread it, people came. Maybe Kevin Costner was right after all. Both Jane and Kathy were oh so generous with their time, their tips and their stories, folks actually asked questions and were able to walk away with a huge amount of value which I’m hoping they plan on putting to god use ASAP.

Are you a-scared of technology? Does the idea of doing social media make your eyes roll back in your head? Are you clueless and exhausted at the idea of making sure you’re business is front and center when people are looking for you? Fear no more (insert loud drumroll and trumpets). This week we tackle the technical side of being found like it’s kindergarten. You’ll walk away saying “this is what I was so afraid of? Easy Peazy stuff!”

Live! With Suzen and Jennifer!

jennifer covello and suzen pettitCan you say l-l-l-launch? That’s “launch” not “lunch”. Many months, long middle of the night terrorizing dreams, sleepless nights when not having terrorizing dreams, countless lists, artfully covered gray hairs and more than a couple of new forehead lines later, it seems that our “Soft Launch”- the free event that will serve as the “taste of”….momtomompreneurnow.com is really going to happen today at 1PM, 10 AM PST. I always throw in that PST because it makes the event seem much more impressive and ‘national’. Can’t hurt. It’s going to happen today if the software doesn’t fail, we remember to hit play, we are sure that the auto-responders functioned properly, the volume is up high enough, we don’t have a power outage and the sky doesn’t fall. Does that about cover it? Everyone to your corded landlines! They don’t fail! [Read more...]

How I Spent My Summer Vacation

Spent the early hours between 7:15 and 8:30 walk/running the New York City Highline and the sleepy streets of Chelsea. Just me and some runners…I am a lucky, lucky girl to have these few weeks. There is no doubt about it. I love the city and the city loves me and we make no bones about it. Other love affairs should be so easy….That being said, as much as I would love to be reporting that being here has made me more focused and targeted, without the distractions of the children, I instead sullenly admit to a different bright and shiny thing—called the city of Manhattan. Damn! I confess, father, to prioritizing the well planned out rendezvous for my dad and stepmom’s visit tomorrow to ensure the least steps possible to save his aching hip but still allow him to enjoy the Highline, to taking a bike ride down to Battery Park when I should have been on a webinar, to gazing out my balcony with binoculars at the rooftop decks to see if I can tell where that barbecue smell is coming from, to standing and loving the scene on the corner of west 23rd and 7th where the street musician and the little girl totally dig each other and have a moment. I admit to taking too many yoga classes, to losing the $16 I swear I stuck in my sneaker on my run this morning, and to eating way too many home made tortilla chips. I admit that its really important to me that my friends and my kids have an outstanding time when they’re here and that they see the city through my eyes and that they in turn love it as well. Which leads me to admit to spending altogether too much time on Living Social and Groupon. [Read more...]

The Anti Social Online Marketer

"The Anti social online marketer"There’s no more denying it. As much as I’ve attempted to live the Social Media Dream for the last few years I’m hangin’ up the hat. Throwin’ in the towel. Wavin’ the white flag. I surrender, ok? I. Just. Can’t. Anymore.
At the risk of sounding like a grouchy old hag I need to come clean. I don’t care that you just arrived at Applebee’s. Nor do I care that you’re feeling peaceful. Not that I don’t like you; please don’t misunderstand. And I do enjoy photos of your kids. I post photos of mine from time to time too, so I won’t be hypocritical here. But let me vent for just a few. It’s nothing personal and I admire those out there who have developed a great Twitter following and who have even become close friends with your Tweet Sisters. A colleague told me a few months ago that she’d developed such a close relationship with one of her Twitter followers that they ended up going on a vacation to the Bahamas’ together last fall. I am in awe of that. But it will never be me. No judgements, it will just never be me! And that’s ok. [Read more...]
